Cooking Setnov

Cooking Setnov

After weeding some vegetables and ingredients for sayur lodeh floating gaily in the pot, I stand casually while scrolling down Instagram. Cooking is a job anyway while stalking other people’s life on Instagram called leisure time. A friend known for rarely sharing through IG, suddenly snapped a selfie at the editorial room office where she works while raising her hand and cheering “Hurray, Setnov as the suspect!” Then I rushed to turn on the television.

Breaking news aired on almost all TV channels. Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held a pers conference to announce the suspect of the electronic ID card (E-KTP) corruption case for the umpteenth time. While stirring the coconut milk that I’ve just poured into, I kept glancing on the TV. A mixed feeling forced its way, an enthusiasm combination of gladness and sadness at the same time.

E-KTP project worths of 5,9 trillion rupiahs and corruption have made the state lose 2,3 trillion. What an extraordinary amount! That pretty penny should let me effortlessly take my kids to any school in any place on Earth. Our government has sophisticatedly tried to create an electronic system for the population registration, but this project just ended up being an object of corruption. No doubt, the perpetrator must get arrested. As citizens, we are supposed to follow E-KTP application obediently, but well, the officials and politishits have put this project to be a target of theft of money for whatsoever reason, either for their private assets or party’s interest. For taking a great number of perpetrators being convicted and suspected into account, do we still believe that this sum of money was for enriching individuals?

How many persons involved in this E-KTP case? I’ll say that it was a lot. At least, it already took about 200 individuals as the witnesses including some of the procurement companies. Are you referred by the RW (community group) or Kelurahan (village administrative) to apply for E-KTP? Is it done or in a smooth process? Instead of applying for E-KTP as called a new project, it seems like there is always an obstacle for our good intention to register ourselves to Population Agency. Dare to share your experience with any KTP or Family Register application? I bet it’s not as smooth as the Cikampek-Palimanan highway.

We’d rather not say that E-KTP will sophisticate our population registration system, while its budget has been corrupted. People are left hanging with uncertainty. How they can subject to any regulation or government’s program, while that’s how their elites behave. It’s confusing, right? Who thinks corruption only deals with the elites? Does it not really affect our life on a daily basis? Is it not a crucial issue for you who set your daily routine for working to earn life, cooking and planning nutrition for family, taking care of your children? Wew! Spending too much time at the administrative office for a KTP can be so bad, dude! It hurts your neck. But you make every effort to do that for the sake of the future of your family.

How pathetic! How many corruptors we should arrest to make us feel successful in defending our country? Every time you pass by the KPK building, do you see any hope or even the irony? KPK may become a reference for people to eradicate corruptions in this country. It becomes a hope. But like two sides of a coin, it is also an irony. How terrible the corruption in this country is, so that we need a special commission and a fancy building with 9 floors to handle such case.

Of course, as one’s getting older, one no longer enjoys the happiness as if it’s a sole feeling. Sometimes it goes with a sort of bitterness in it. Just like this sayur lodeh, all tastes of sweet, savory, a little bitter mixed up. I’m so glad that the Chairman of the People’s Representative Council (DPR), Setya Novanto (Setnov), is now a suspect. But it makes me sad though. In this country, the corruption seems like a never ending case. Hiks!
